We are thrilled to announce that Jimmy Chin’s documentary following the treacherous ascent up mount Meru was shortlisted among fifteen documentary features for this year’s Oscars.
Mount Meru sits 21,000 feat above the Ganges River and is one of the most difficult obstacles for even the most expert of mountain climbers. Jimmy Chin ascended the mountain with Conrad Anker and Renan Ozturk over the course of a planned seven day trip (which ended up being much longer) and captured it all in this riveting and nearly heart-stopping documentary.
Co-directed by Jimmy Chin and Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, the film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier, where it picked up the Audience Award for Best Documentary. The film has also been shortlisted by the PGA Awards and the Independent Spirit Awards. Chin’s picturesque filmmaking takes a lead from his incredible photography for National Geographic, some of which you can view on his must-follow Instagram.
Congratulations to Jimmy Chin and the Meru team! Meru is available to buy or rent on iTunes today.
