The Las Vegas based Consumer Electronics Show this week is set to premiere the long-awaited virtual reality companion experience to Ridley Scott’s The Martian.
Directed by Robert Stromberg through the Fox Innovation Lab in collaboration with RSA and The VR Co., the experience takes the viewer into the mind of astronaut Mark Watney (played by Matt Damon in the film), to explore Mars and try their hand at his perilous journey of survival. With 360 degree views of the red planet and a truly comprehensive and immersive experience, The Martian VR is viewable through Oculus Rift headsets and runs about 25 minutes long.
The Martian VR Experience will premiere at CES this week. For a preview of the action to come, check out USA Today, wherein reporter Carly Mallenbaum describes being “awestruck…[feeling] as if I were exploring the beautiful ‘vast horizons’ of orange and brown that Watney talks about in the film.”
