Travel to Mars with The Martian VR Experience on PlayStation VR & HTC Vive

November 15, 2016

New Virtual Reality Experience Based on the Hit Movie Available Now on PlayStation VR and HTC Vive.

“Oxygen level critical…” Words you probably don’t want to hear on any given day. If it were real, you might panic, but this isn’t the end; in fact, it’s only the beginning of your adventure on Mars as the lead character, Mark Watney, from the award-winning and critically acclaimed film The Martian. Now, for the first time, you can be an active participant in the movie.

That’s what the creative team at Twentieth Century Fox and the Fox Innovation Lab, in partnership with RSA Films and the Virtual Reality Company, had in mind when developing The Martian VR Experience. Just like the planet Mars might be in the near future,  virtual reality is a new frontier that brings fans closer to the action in ways never before possible.

“I think that I’ve always tried to approach filmmaking from the standpoint of creating an immersive experience.” said Director Ridley Scott in reference to shooting the film. “From the set location to the rover to the habitat, on The Martian we went to great lengths to ensure the accuracy of the film, including partnering with NASA’s jet propulsion laboratory. When it finally came time to shoot, you didn’t have to imagine you were on Mars, you felt you were on Mars.”

“The cinema experience is sitting there watching a two dimensional screen. Even with a three dimensional screen, you’re still an audience member looking at it. With VR, you’re inside it. You are the person walking on the planet. It’s uncanny…your head is on his shoulders really so you’re literally experiencing what Mark Watney is doing… how he feels and how he lives…”

Experience the planet Mars like never before with The Martian VR Experience, now available on PlayStation VR and HTC Vive. Read more about The Martian VR Experience here.
