New in-world experience directed by Luke Scott for Blade Runner 2049 captivates fans.
As fans await the highly anticipated release of Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros.’ Blade Runner 2049, they can get a taste of what’s to come with the first of the film’s official prologues, “2036: Nexus Dawn.” The short in-world film sheds light on what happened in the Blade Runner universe between 2019 and 2049, and revolves around Niander Wallace (played by Jared Leto) as he introduces a new line of “perfected” replicants called the Nexus 9, who are seeking the repeal of the prohibition on replicants.
“Creating this type of prologue film during the production of a movie is a very particular challenge and one of the principal reasons we started 3AM,” says Ridley Scott, Executive Producer of Blade Runner 2049. “You’re dealing with a balance of production schedules, talent schedules, existing sets and locations, and asking a lot of people to work two jobs. And then you have to make sure it aligns with the filmmaker’s vision. So the idea, the script and the production have to address all of these variables. It’s like building a plane as it flies.”
“2036: Nexus Dawn” was shot during principal photography, and was a beautifully collaborative effort between our producers at RSA, our Director Luke Scott (Morgan, “Meet Walter”), and our partner company 3AM, as part of Blade Runner 2049’s marketing campaign.
