Tomas Alfredson’s film career started at Svensk Filmindustri and Sveriges Television, where he was involved in the creation of numerous TV Shows and also the creation of TV4.

 

In 1995 Alfredson directed his first feature film, Bert: The Last Virgin (based on the Bert TV series he also directed), for which Alfredson received a Guldbagge nomination for Best Directon.

 

In 1999 Alfredson joined the Swedish comedy group Killingganget as a director. This collaboration produced four television films and culminated in the 2004 feature Four Shades of Brown, which earned 4 Guldbagge awards, including Best Direction for Alfredson.

 

In 2007 Alfredson directed Let The Right One In, adapted from a novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist. The film tells the story of a 12-year-old bullied boy who befriends a child vampire in early 1980s Blackeberg, Sweden. The film premiered at the 2008 Göteborg International Film Festival to massive critical acclaim. It then went on to become an international commercial success – being distributed to 40 countries. As well as earning a number of international awards, Let The Right One In earned Alfredson his second Guldbagge Award for Best Direction.

 

In 2009/10 directed the film adaption of John Le Carre’s 1974 Novel Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, starring Gary Oldman and Colin Firth (amongst others). It premiered in September 2011 at the 68th Venice International Film Festival – again to critical acclaim and international commercial success.
