A graduate of the UK, National Film & Television School, Ben spent his early career as a production designer on international movies both large and small. His specialty is set building in far flung exotic locations. Something which has during his career taken him to jungles, (The Beach), the Arctic circle, (Far North) deserts, (The Phantom Menace) where he headed up the planet Tattoine and pod racing sections. However, that doesn’t mean he is not at home with a good dose of 1930’s fashion (Cracks / A Good Woman).
Unsurprisingly this has transferred into a very cinematic, visual film style. His acclaimed 2015 spot Kaleidoscope for Red Bull was awarded Gold at the 2016 Creative Circle Awards, Gold at Cannes Lions 2016 and a win at AICP 2016. A highly technical and dynamic piece that embodies Ben’s trademark use of in camera trickery and set pieces. He actively seeks out work that has a combination of high concept artistry and emotional content.
Ben has been on the judging jury of BAFTA for production design three times, has a Royal Television Society award for best Production Design, for his work on Sword of Honour, starring Daniel Craig, and work in the permanent archive of MoMA in New York. He also has a Guinness world record for designing the world’s largest Zoetrope for Sony Bravia.
