Storytelling is a family tradition for Morgan, his mother Pat Hutchins is a celebrated children’s book author and his father Laurence directed some of the UK’s most seminal adverts of the 70’s and 80’s.
Morgan studied at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, earning a degree in Film; it was here he really developed his passion for comedy. His graduation film ‘Birdseeds’ was a black comedy about a pigeon murdering old lady. Having won a Fuji Film student award and being featured as a hot new director in Shots magazine for his first commercial for Absolut Vodka he was snapped up by the Dutch hothouse production company; Czar Films. This lead to a varied and often surreal experience of directing promos and commercials in Amsterdam and it was here he started exploring humour in more visual ways.
He returned to London and directed the launch campaign for Schweppes Oasis soft drink through Saatchi & Saatchi. He has since gone on to shoot for a wide variety of clients including: Cadburys, Nissan, Coca Cola, Philips, Kellogg’s, News International, Blackberry, Dominoes, to name but a few. He has won a coveted D&AD pencil with his work for DDB London & Guardian Newspapers as well as a couple of arrows at the BTAA for Kit Kat through JWT. As well as traditional advertising Morgan has embraced digital filmmaking, finding a new and exciting world, he enjoys working in various formats, he loves the challenge of telling a story in a 5-10 second long ident as much as he loves the freedom that longer viral/internet scripts offer. His most recent work for is a series of spots for the insurance company confused.com featuring the lovable robot ‘Brian’.
He is very experienced at working with celebrities and sport stars, having shot campaigns for various newspapers and magazines, always striving to get a credible performance. But it is with actors that he has produced his most successful work, and this culminated in the short film ‘Condimentia’ the story of a man addicted to mayonnaise and ketchup…
