Paul began his career as an Art Director at DDB London, where he spent a decade working on award-winning campaigns for clients such as the Health Education Authority, VW, and Miller Light.
It was during his time at DDB that Paul wrote and directed several political broadcasts for Britain’s Labour Party and began to develop his own distinct style of film making – combining comic realism with visual elegance. After leaving DDB to direct full time, Paul was quickly recognised as a premiere directing talent both in the UK and the States, and it wasn’t long before he was taking home Gold Lions and top honors from the BTAA, D&AD and AICP for campaigns for VW, British Army, Church’s Chicken and Dulux.Campaign magazine recognized his efforts by naming him as one of their Top 10 international directors. Recent commercial projects include work for clients such as Wickes, Land Rover, UK Electoral Commission, and flagship BBC programmes ‘The Voice’ and ‘Eastenders’.
Paul’s film making talents extend beyond advertising – he’s directed episodes for several prominent TV shows including the BAFTA-winning contemporary teen drama ‘Skins’. Paul’s work on Skins was lauded for eliciting convincingly authentic performances from an untried teen cast that included Nicholas Hoult (A Single Man) and Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire). Paul also directed episodes of BBC2 mini-series ‘Desperate Romantics’, Peter Bowker’s darkly comedic Pre-Raphaelite drama billed as “‘Entourage’ with easels.” Most recently Paul directed an episode in the sixth season of the critically acclaimed ITV drama ‘Vera’.
In addition to commercial and TV work Paul enjoys working on short films. He has directed ‘Catalina View’ and ‘Look at me, I’m Beautiful’, both of which enjoyed positive runs on the film festival circuit. His recent short ‘The Removal’ is currently being submitted into various festivals.
Paul is currently represented by Interrogate for all US projects.
