Named one of Variety’s “10 Directors to Watch” in 2007, Trier earned early acclaim for his innovative feature film “Reprise”, which was just released by Miramax Films this month. In addition to his film work, Trier has done spots for leading Scandinavian brands, including SpareBank 1, the Norwegian Lotto, Hafslund, Elko, and Involveyourself.com.
“Reprise” is a comic drama that follows the parallel story of two young friends and their literary aspirations. The film won three Amandas at the 2007 Norwegian International Film Festival (“Best Film,” “Best Direction,” and “Best Screenplay”), and was showcased at top festivals including Toronto (2006 Discovery Award), Sundance, London, Rotterdam and Istanbul (2007 “Best Picture”). “Reprise” was also selected as the official Norwegian entry, Foreign Language Film category, for the 2007 Academy Awards®.
“Joachim has that rare combination; strong narrative storytelling with a stunning and unique visual style. His reel really stands out” says RSA Films Managing Director Kai-Lu Hsiung.
A native of Denmark who currently resides in Norway, Trier hails from a long line of filmmakers. A top skateboarder as a teenager, Trier got his start behind the camera making skateboarding videos, and went on to formalise his studies at the European Film College in Copenhagen and the UK’s National Film & Television School.
Says Trier, “At an early age, I began helping my filmmaker father create animated shorts and grew up immersed in all things film. Aligning with a powerhouse company such as RSA affords me the key new opportunities I need to continue my development as a director.”
Trier is currently working on his second feature length film.
