Born in Hamburg, Germany, director Andreas Roth began his film career directly out of high school working with the prestigious production company Markenfilm. He followed this with six months at Hamburg’s famed Jung von Matt ad agency. In 2009, Roth joined the renowned Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, shooting his first commercial at the age of 21.
Two years later, Roth’s online ad for Dirt Devil, The Exorcist, won the coveted Young Director Award at Cannes. Cleverly effecting a product placement within his reimagining of the classic horror film, Roth’s Exorcist spot quickly went viral, emerging as the fifth most viewed online film of 2011, while receiving a slew of awards and media recognition.
Roth went on to win the YDA Award again in 2013 in the broadcast category for his work with Herbaria. In addition, Roth has received numerous international honors, including
the Cannes Lions, Saatchi & Saatchi New Director’s Showcase, D&AD, Clio, NYC Festival, Epica, Eurobest, and the TED Global Conference.
Roth received a scholarship to the UCLA Film Academy Master Class, and in 2014 graduated from Film Academy Baden-Württemberg with a degree in Commercial Directing. He currently resides in Los Angeles, where he is developing his first feature.
