Rebecca Baehler makes remarkable images on film or digital. Her aesthetic is clean, graphic, elegant and memorable. As a director and cinematographer, she marries her visual and technical prowess to a sensitivity and passion for the concepts and ideas that animate each of her projects.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Rebecca began her career in production for Amblin Entertainment. A fascination with the complexities required for powerful imagery drew her to cinematography and a long relationship with John Stanier, BSC. Her apprenticeship as Stanier’s assistant on hundreds of commercials shot on film continued to polish her technique and create a depth and richness on digital seldom seen. Mark Coppos gave Rebecca her first break as a director of photography on a Levi’s commercial, beginning a career as one of the leading cinematographers and directors on the commercial scene with an expertise in macro photography. Her most noteworthy work includes photographing and directing a lengthy string of global award-winning campaigns for Apple, and, as DP on the macro unit, many scenes for Ant Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018). Ant Man was nominated for VES Award for Outstanding Virtual Cinematography in a Photoreal Project.
After many years of cutting-edge commercial directing coupled with her camera prowess, the crisp and elegant looks continue on a level only she can capture; her sharp and intuitive understanding of visual commercial communication as well as motion picture storytelling has always been a vital part of her repertoire. Rebecca possesses a sensitivity to the performances of the cast, and a passion for subtlety and unparalleled nuance.
