‘Bad Boys For Life,’ the third film of the popular action comedy series with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, blasted past competitors to triumph at the North American box office in its opening weekend with a $73.4 million launch. The film has drawn praise for Smith and Lawrence’s comedic chemistry and its fun action sequences, including the action-packed opening car sequence shot by Henrik Hansen. Henrik, renowned for his visual wizardry shooting automotive commercials, was a natural to plug into the opportunity to 2nd unit direct from Jerry Bruckheimer’s team via Scott Free.
Unlike commercials which have tight schedules, often with only a few days of prep, Henrik had several weeks of prep for the film’s high-octane opening car sequence. He also had a lot of camera toys to film, providing the opportunity to be more dynamic with camera moves and overall cinematography for his 6-day shoot in Miami.
“I’m a fan of the first two ‘Bad Boys’ films, so it was pretty epic to do the opening car sequence for ‘Bad Boys For Life,’” Henrik says. “Creating a high-speed action sequence throughout Miami with the new 992 Porsche Carrera 4S was an adrenaline rush both in camera and behind the scenes which translated directly in the cinematic piece.”
